The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 (Tubular Zagato 2) driven by Lucien Bianchi and Roberto Bussinello at the 1966 Targa Florio. The Autodelta team car finished in 10th place overall, and 2nd place in the 1.6 litre sportscar class behind another Alfa Romeo TZ2. During the 1966 season, Autodelta raced the TZ2 5 times in international events, finishing first in class at all 5 events, including Sebring and the Nürburgring 1000 km (the TZ2 was also raced at a few additional events by privateer teams). After 18 months of near domination of the 1.6 litre sportscar class, it was time for bigger challenges for Alfa Romeo. Autodelta would take the experience they had gained with the TZ2 to re-enter prototype racing. The Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 sports-prototype program picked up where the TZ’s left-off.
