The race winning BMW V12 LMR driven by Yannick Dalmas, Pierluigi Martini and Joachim Winkelhock at the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans. After BMW scored a surprise victory at the 1995 24 Hours as an engine supplier to McLaren, they became interested in developing a car of their own. BMW enlisted the help of their F1 partner Williams to developed a prototype racecar around the V12 engine. The BMW V12 LM debuted in 1998, but suffered mechanical issues and a sluggish pace caused by poor aerodynamics. BMW returned in 1999 with the reworked V12 LMR and earned their only overall victory at Le Mans (they also earned several victories in the American Le Mans Series with the LMR).
