LOTUS ELITE
The Lotus Elite driven by Jim Clark and John Whitmore at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans. Clark and Whitmore finished in 10th place over-all, and second in class behind another, privately entered Lotus Elite. The 1959 race was the young Jim Clark’s debut at Le Mans, he would return in 1960 and 1961 (each year with the Border Reivers racing team). In 1960 he finished in 3rd place overall driving an Aston Martin DBR1, in 1961 he returned with the DBR1, but failed to finish the race due to mechanical issues.
