Series III Illustration:
LOLA T70 MKII
The All American Racers Lola T70 MkII driven by Dan Gurney at the 1966 Bridgehampton Grand Prix. Dan Gurney’s Lola started on pole, and never lost the lead. He won the race, the second event in the inaugural season of the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (Can-Am). The 1966 season was dominated by the Lola T70 MkII, but the winning cars were typically powered by small-block Chevrolet engines. Gurney’s ‘Bardahl Special’ used a Ford engine which produced an impressive 520 bhp, but it had serious reliability issues (Bridgehampton was the only race he finished during the season).
